Rusty is a real Dexter bull on a farm in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The photographs of Cloverdale Farm, taken by Elly Bingham, set the scene for the wonderful artwork of Chantelle Roberts, who painted the farmyard animals and their friends.

Graphic artist, Maree James, put her skilled touches to each page to present Rusty and the Racehorse as an innovative picture book which will have young readers enthralled.

The text is easy to read for juniors and the use of repetition makes word recognition easy. At the end of the book there is a question for the reader to answer as well as a moral for Rusty.

The Rusty stories were written by Patricia Young, a mother and grandmother with over forty years experience in raising children and knowing what appeals to them. She wrote the first story for her grandchildren who visit the farm on school holidays, but eventually that idea expanded into a series of Rusty stories.
